Wood Sealer and Finish

Your Moon Valley furniture is treated with our own wood penetrating sealer and finish.  This finish has been
specially formulated to seal out moisture, protect against mildew, and block out the damaging effects of
ultra-violet light.  When first applied, the wood will darken to a richer color, however, the color will lighten over
several months depending on the furnitures exposure to sunlight (ultra-violet light).  Even though the wood may
eventually appear very light, it looks natural and is still protected.  When the cedar begins to turn gray, it is time
to renew protection and color.  If you choose not to refinish your furniture, it will weather to a silvery gray and still
last many years due to cedar's natural resistance to deacy and insect damage.

Varnish Finish

Your Moon Valley picnic table boards are finished with one coat of sealer and two coats of varnish.  We have
specially formulated our varnish for outdoor use.  The varnish finish on the picnic table boards is recommended
because it allows for easy clean-up after using the table.  The table boards should be re-coated after 30-45 days
and again each spring.  This will seal any small checks or knot openings caused by initial weathering.  A light
sanding, with the grain, using medium grit (100) sandpaper, and a clean dry surface are required before new
varnish is applied.  Do Not attempt to re-finish your furniture if it is wet.  This will result in poor finish quality,
causing the varnish to crack and peel prematurely, and may cause the wood to dry rot.

Cracks In the Logs

As you will notice, the cedar logs in your furniture all have cracks in them.  Cedar is a long enduring wood and it
is natural for it to crack as it dries.  These cracks Do not lessen the strength or durability of your furniture in any
way.

Winter Storage

If it is not possible for you to store your furniture indoors for the winter, simply stand your table on end, preferably
up on some blocks, against your house or garage.  Lean the swing seat, chair, or settee against the building with
the seat tipped down.  This will help to lessen the effects of weathering on your furniture.  Do not cover with
plastic or roll the table upside down on the ground.  This simply traps the ground moisture against the furniture.

Safety

Although your furniture has been heavily braced and constructed for greater strength and durability, it should be
checked periodically for looseness or wear.  Regularly inspected joints, bolts and hooks, and replace worn parts
or hardware if necessary.  These items are available from Moon Valley or through your dealer.  Please enjoy
your Moon Valley furniture, and with regular care it will last many years.
